The expression 'supervisory control and data acquisition' systems, SCADA, describes a number of remote terminal units (RTUs) installed on a pipeline or on offshore platforms which communicate with a master station computer at a centrally-located control room. Much of the material covered in this book will reflect the author's experience of various pipeline and offshore projects. The author's intent is to convey only fundamental operational principles of instrumentation, metering and supervisory control and data acquisition systems, as applied to offshore platforms and to oil/gas pipelines.
