Torments Ancient and Modern

This is an account of the history and society of the Anglo-Welsh area of North Wales which explores the torments of a post-war people rooted in one culture and expressing themselves in another. The book also incorporates reflections on Anglo-Welsh history, particularly in the North Wales area, and stretches from the Dark Ages, through the conquest of Edward I in the 13th century and the ensuing campaign of building and religious conversion. The book reflects the English influence on Welsh history and shows how attitudes in and towards Wales were shaped by administrative powers, military pressures and religious influences.
