Possessed

Deep in the forest was a small clearing containing a perfect circle of rocks. An orange haze hung over a lone figure, standing in its centre, dressed in a long white cloak and hood. He held a large, blunt knife and at his feet lay two more knives, some candles, a chalice and a large, leather-bound book. Nearly four hundred years later, a young girl followed her dog into the forest and into that same clearing where the floor shone as if gilded and the sun glowed orange ..... What happened next, a fall, a childish accident of the kind to upset any child's morning, was, it turned out, no ordinary mishap - and the girl who left the forest that March day had changed, changed for ever.
