Dr. Charles has had wide metallurgical experience, covering both ferrous and non-ferrous metals, in industrial and academic research, teaching and consulting and current metallurgical development as well as archaeometallurgy. Here he recounts the story of his professional life from student at the Royal School of Mines to retirement, introducing many of the characters that he has been associated with over the years, and the work carried out.
