Character Education for the Classroom

The two major values which are essential in order to become a responsible citizen of ANY society are RESPECT AND RESPONSIBILITY.

In exploring literature which deals with these universal values students will have the opportunity to:

1. Examine positive and negative role models from literature and real life.
2. Discuss moral dilemmas of characters and through the use of CRITICAL THINKING, analyze difficult problems and situations and propose alternative actions for solving the problems.
3. Find parallels to the problems and situations of literary characters in their own lives.
4. Listen to everyone's ideas and attempt to understand both sides of an issue.
5. Gain a deeper perspective of the lives of others by walking in their shoes through role-playing.
6. Gain a deeper understanding of the law and the legal process by participating in mock trials.
