The Dominican Republic: A National History

This updated edition of "The Dominican Republic: A National History" will cover the period from 1990 to 2008, that is, from the collapse of the Dominican economy to the May 2008 presidential elections. In addition to the electoral fraud and constitutional reforms of 1994 and the return and current administration of Leonel Fernandez, the update will focus on financial crises, the economic reforms of the 1990s, the free-trade agreement with the U.S., and party politics. It will also take account of recent Dominican cultural upheavals prompted by the growth of tourism, resistance to change, and the rapid alteration of values stemming from the migration from rural to urban areas, industrialization, and return migration from the United states.
