Western Futures

What does the future hold for the American West? In this collection, seventeen humanities scholars from a range of fields and disciplines examine the possibilities as we enter the new millennium. The essayists explore the arbitrariness of "the millennium" as a date for change but acknowledge the millennium as a discussion point for analyzing current problems as well as the rhetoric surrounding such topics as architecture, multiculturalism, futurism, hypermedia, the literary canon, English language, urban and suburban growth, public health, and environmental themes.
