This Labor Law guide discusses the various California state statutes affecting all the various Labor Laws in the State of California. Federal laws and regulations, such as the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) are not discussed here except occasionally to point out differences where federal and state laws overlap. The Department of Labor (DOL) administers and enforces more than 180 federal laws. These mandates and the regulations that implement them cover many workplace activities for about 10 million employers and 125 million workers.
