A Guide to Late Anglo-Saxon England From Aelfred to Eadgar II

A very useful introduction to England from the year 871, the beginning of Alfred's reign, to 1074, when England's last Anglo-Saxon king gave up his claim to Alfred's throne. Part one contains brief descriptions of political institutions, social and religious life, language and literature. Part two is a reign by reign account of England's kings highlighting important events. Appendices give detaild of the holders of major offices and summary accounts of the unification of England, the Danish conquest of 1009-1016 and the Norman conquest of 1066-1071.
