📖 Description
The period covered by the memoir runs from 1931 to 1951. Its principal theme is the charms, labours, surprises and delights of living in the countryside, from the perspective of someone accustomed to urban life. The author, born in 1920 and brought up in London, was eleven years old when her parents uprooted and moved to a village in Hertfordshire. It was the beginning of a period of rural living which was to straddle the Second World War and her own transition from childhood to adulthood, and live in her memory for ever after.
