Who has not dreamed of living in, or at least visiting, California? The state, with its huge economy (the eighth largest in the world), and its history of cultural tolerance and environmentalism, has long been considered a bellwether for American politics. It is also true that California is less a place than it is a state of mind. It is possible for one to live in California without actually setting foot there.
