Originally published as The Quiet Storm (Masters Press, 1998), this book has been completely revised and rewritten to include the sports and athletes that have become more prominent in the last five years. The growth in popularity of women's sports has been a long time coming. Many, many women have worked very hard behind the scenes to make today's professional and gold-medal winning Olympic teams a reality. But this book is about more than just the female athletes, it's about their relationships with each other, their families, their children. It is about the frustration of having to fight to have the same opportunities that male athletes have always had. It is about getting into the boys' club without wanting to be one of the boys. It celebrates women's strengths, humor and honor and the way women's participation in sports can positively influence girls and boys.
