Description

Guy Bostick had already achieved more than most people would have expected of him when he set the wheels in motion for one of the nations largest trucking businiesses. The youngest of 11 children born to a family of Georgia sharecroppers, Bostick dropped out of school in the ninth grade following the death of his father. He found work at a furniture mill in Palatka, Fla., and later became a highway patrolman in the central Florida town of Bartow. Along the way, he married Jan Philips, the beautiful young daughter of a family from Palatka that owned a dairy. By all indications, Guy had a bright future in law enforcement. You can imagine Jan's reaction that evening in 1946 when Guy came home from work and told her he'd traded in the family car to buy a used tractor-trailer. She was livid. In 1953 Bostwick starts Comcar Industries by being it's only driver. The company is now headquartered in Auburndale, Florida and has evolved from its origins as Commercial Carrier Corporation - the original name - to become an institution in the nation-wide trucking industry. Comcar Industries is now one of the largest trucking firms in the United States. It owns 11 divisions, operating five trucking operations nationwide with 52 strategically located terminals, allowing the company to haul any commodity, anywhere in the United States. Comcar has 6,500 employees and generates annual revenues in excess of $500 million. Quite an accomplishment considering Guy Bostick's professed dream was one day to own 25 trucks. Since its founding, Comcar has grown from its humble beginnings to spread across the continental United States. From logistics, to warehousing, to transportation services, Comcar has become on of the top leaders in a high competitive marketplace. Discover the fascinating people and events behind this true American success story.
