Vision, Space, Desire: Global Perspectives and Cultural Hybridity

Vision, Space, Desire: Global Perspectives and Cultural Hybridity, which grew out of an international art symposium held by the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian in December 2005, features a lively exchange of ideas among Native and non-Native museum directors and curators, artists, critics, and scholars and opens new possibilities in contemporary art practice and engagement. Distinguished contributors from Australia, Brazil, Canada, England, New Zealand, Turkey, and the United States take on topics that include institutional and alternative spaces of art; the politics of curatorial practice; globalization, diaspora, and indigeneity; and the relevance of postmodern and postcolonial theories in reading Native contemporary art.
