A Photographic Essay and Guide to the Adena, Hopewell Sioux and Iroquois, Mounds and Earthworks, 1000 B.C. to 500 A.D. is the first extensive physical survey and account since Squire and Davis - working for the Bureau of Ethnology - published Ancient Monuments of the Mississippi Valley in 1848. This publication is the result of exploring over 700 mound and earthwork sites in 5 states; that took eleven winters to complete. The result is 222 sites photographed and directions provided to those who wish to investigate the ruins from this mysterious chapter of American history.

This book also explores the rise and fall of the Hopewell and their lineage within the kindred tribes of the Sioux, Iroquois and Cherokee Nations. From the pantheon of Gods worshipped by these Native Americans, new insights are revealed about the purpose and construction of the geometric earthworks found in the Ohio Valley. The lengths, diameters and circumferences of the circular and square works are examined, unveiling the Adena and Hopewell had knowledge of complex mathematics that included how to formulate pi and square roots.
