First to Fight

North Korea, 1950, brings Marine Colonel Forrest “Starchy” Glenn’s toughest campaign. Veteran of the brutal battles at Guadalcanal and Peleliu in World War II, and Inchon and Seoul in South Korea, the encounter at Hagaru-ri, North Korea, promises to be the worst yet. In addition, he can’t shake the premonition that this may be his last command, whether from his strong support of his troops at the peril of his own career, or from some more ominous reason. As the storm clouds of battle brew in sub-zero temperatures, the Colonel passes on his memoirs to Naval Chaplain Frank Canavan. What the Padre reads sends him on a mission of discovery of a complex man and his two closest Lieutenants, “Buffalo” Joe Hunter and Eddie “Bean Bandit” Herrera. Friendships, unbreakable bonds, losses, victories and defeats all begin with a bar fight in Shanghai in 1939 and continue through WWII and Korea where the legend of the “Yellow Legs” is born and the legend of “Starchy” Glenn is sealed.
