New Hematology/Oncology Nurse Practitioners are only expected to work like 12 people at once and only be one step at most behind their physician partners. While this is a ridiculous example it is all too often all too true. For better or for worse most Hematologists and Oncologists are way too busy. We really need the help of Nurse Practitioners to help our patients. Please do not think this belittles or under rates the help we need from our other staff. Modern care of those with blood or malignant disorders is very much a team effort. This book is published to help our colleagues who have chosen to be Nurse Practitioners to have a quick reference guide to many of the common clinical conundrums encountered in clinical practice. It is supposed to help not only with the technical nuts and bolts but also to help handle the emotional trauma of this field as well. It is not to replace the input of collaborating physicians. In fact the test section has been designed to force communication and teaching.
