Description
Warning: this book does contain a few uses of profanity, real life language on the streets (though toned down greatly) Shelby is an ordinary girl with the normal desire to be loved. Unfortunately, her father is not normal. Despite being a man of outward religion, his behavior contradicts the principles of love of Jesus. Shelby's mother, instead of protecting her daughter from the abuse, chides the poor girl for provoking the outbursts, which sometimes lead to physical mayhem. Since Shelby refuses to obey her father's command to keep her mouth shut about his abuse, he convinces his own doctor to have her put on drugs and admitted to an asylum, the very place where he belonged. Time after time, Shelby gets a chance for normalcy in her life as strangers fall in love with the beautiful but battered girl. Her Russian skating coach and his wife are part of the good times as they train her up to be an Olympic hopeful. But every time Shelby is on the verge of breaking away to happiness, her father reins her back in through intimidation and lies. Her life is a roller coaster ride of fear and violence and the promise of love. The promise never seems to materialize no matter how hard Shelby tries. The reader of this story will take the same emotional roller coaster ride. No villain in the world of literature will earn the wrath of a reader more than Shelby's father. However, this story really happened. As a reader caught up in the story, you'll want to rush in and punch out the perpetrator of the heinous crimes against this innocent girl. However, all you'll be able to do is hang on to the safety bar and take the plunges into the depth of despair with Shelby until the nightmare ends. If you dive into this story, you will take a journey that you will never forget. And your soul will never be the same.
