Dialectic in Hegel's History of Philosophy, Vol. 1

Hegel's Lectures on the History of Philosophy is rightly described as one of his greatest philosophical achievements. Yet, this body of work has been largely ignored in the English-speaking Hegel scholarship. In a three-volume work, Mehmet Tabak offers the first comprehensive interpretation of these lectures. He follows all of Hegel's specific lectures, step-by-step; interprets their salient points, at times critically; and connects them to the ideas Hegel expresses in his other major works. The result is a systematic articulation of Hegel's philosophy. The author also pays special attention to Hegel's dialectic, and to the dialectic of the philosophers Hegel considers in his lectures. The present volume covers Hegel's lengthy "Introduction," his lectures on "Oriental Philosophy" and the Greek period extending from Thales to the Socratics.
