Economic Analysis of Fisheries Development Programmes in Karnataka: A Study in Coastal Karnataka

The impact of various schemes like providing geographical positioning, subsidies and other concessions extended by the state and central government for coastal Karnataka fisher folk has been analysed using total factor productivity concept.The frontier production function (Cobb Douglas) revealed that among the four variables considered for the study, the labor has negative impact on fish catch for boat. Gini coefficient is also used to study reduction in inequality of income and assets, Lorenz curve for demonstration of equity, concurrent margin method for calculation of price spread,incremental value of output was computed. The study suggests impact of WTO policies on fishermen development of Karnataka.
