Antidiabetic, Antihyperlipidemic & Antioxidant Activity Of Lawsone: Study on antidiabetic,antihyperlipidemic,and antioxidant activity of Lawsone and its o-alkyl derivatives

The present stydy was undertaken to investigate therapeutical potential of Lawsone and its O-alkyl derivatives.These compounds have shown Hypoglycemic,lipid lowering and antioxidant activity with ability to increase Glucokinase activity. Glucokinase, predominant hexokinase expressed in the liver, has very high control strength on hepatic glucose disposal and is the glucose sensor for insulin secretion in pancreatic Beta-cells. Type 2 diabetes is associated with defective regulation of hepatic glucose metabolism and impaired conversion of glucose to glycogen. Such potential of these compounds may have benefit in management of diabetes and associated complications
