Adrian Frutiger's sign worlds are not presentations of nature, but rather primal beings, silhouettes of animal and plant beings that were akin to descriptions of a species for Frutiger. The occupation with these drawings brought quietude to Frutiger. The impetus for the publication of these drawings was the chance Frutiger had to design a New Year's print in the form of a biblical text. Although Frutiger's drawings did not suit the New Year's print in the end, this was the impulse for him and his wife to publish the drawings that had arisen therein.
