Constructivism and Rationalism in EU External Relations: The Case of the European Neighbourhood Policy

EU foreign policy analysis is still an under-theorized field. This book combines the two dominant theoretical approaches - constructivism and rationalism - to look at the European Neighborhood Policy (ENP) in an unconventional way. In-depth discourse analysis and interviews - carried out in Europe's Eastern neighborhood (Ukraine, Georgia, and Moldova), in three key Member States (Germany, France, and Poland), and inside EU institutions (the Council, the Commission, and the Parliament) - offer the reader a fresh look at the origins and subsequent development of the ENP. The results of the analysis will no doubt be beneficial for both practitioners and scholars of European studies and international relations who are interested in a comprehensive and theoretically innovative approach to the policy.
