Community Policies and Mountain Areas: Proceedings of the Conference Organised by the European Commission

2002 was the International Year of Mountains. Across the world, events were held to promote a better understanding of the significance of the mountains in historical, ecological, cultural and economic terms and to examine ways to encourage the sustainable development of mountains and mountain communities in the future. This was why we decided that the time was also ripe for a major European conference on Community policies and the mountain areas, the first occasion of its kind to be organised by the European Commission.
