The EU Works for You: Environmental Research for Today and Tomorrow

The environment and mankind are strongly intertwined. The environment is essential for economic activities, and it also provides for human welfare. However, increasing signals of degradation beyond environmental carrying capacity are becoming more and more evident. The most relevant is climate change. Its forecasted impacts - rising sea levels, extreme weather, and loss of diversity - will take a toll on society if we do not take action. The problems are not country-specific: environmental challenges have a potential impact on everyone, requiring an international effort to ensure they are properly addressed. With close to €852 million of funding, FP6 has supported almost 280 projects focusing on a variety of different topics.
