Although Ethiopia is widely associated with poverty and famine, in most people's minds; it is also home to some of the world's most unique treasures. In 347 C.E., Christianity was introduced to Ethiopia, and left its mark in the form of beautifully carved wood crosses, elaborate gold medals, outsize procession crosses and stunning icons. The icons, with their unusual colors and expressive style, are quite different from the icons generated by Europe's orthodox churches.
