Whitehead and China: Relevance and Relationships (Process Thought)

Whitehead acknowledged that "the philosophy of or- ganism seems to approximate more to some strains of ... Chinese thought." Some scholars have attempted to explore this relationship and its implications. The Beijing Conference provided a good forum for interested and engaged scholars to address each other directly, in an atmosphere of mutual regard and respect. The ongoing scholarly work on process thinking in China is impressive. It is the editors' conviction that the publication of this book in English will promote international discussion of the themes and issues set forth at the conference. This work also contributes significantly to broader discussion between West and East, so important in this age of cultural globalization.

Wenyu Xie is Professor of Philosophy, Shandong University, Jinan, China and Special Guest Professor of Theology, International Theological Seminary, El Monte, California, United States. He has published two books: The Concept of Freedom: The Platonic-Augustinian-Lutheran-Kierkegaardian Tradition and Plato's Timaeus.

Zhihe Wang is Executive Director of China Project at Center for Process Studies, Claremont Graduate University, Claremont, California, United States and has authored two books in Chinese: A Study on Postmodern Philosophical Movement and Michel Foucault. George E. Derfer is Emeritus Professor, Cal Poly Pomona University, Pomona, California, United States.
