Description
This book looks at the individual and societal factors which influence the gender-biased image of science, engineering, and technology (SET) that is prevalent in young people. From different angles, the book's contributors investigate the consequences of this often unattractive (but also partly obsolete) image for gendered study and occupational choices of girls and boys. Besides peers, school, and the media as main socialization influences, the articles focus on young people's self-concept, regarding the development of gendered attitudes towards SET. Further, the book includes approaches and concepts of inclusion measures which aim to change the image of SET and attract young people, especially girls, for academic study and job-related fields.
