Valuation of Coastland Resources: The Case of Mangroves in Gujarat

Confronting India's environmental and economic data, this in-depth study examines the nation's coastal resources in the hopes of providing a better focus for sustainable development. Acknowledging the current failure of national income statistics to include environmental assets,India's coastal resources are examined notably the mangroves and their rich forest ecosystem. Charging that this thriving ecosystem contributes significantly to the economy, this volume contends that it needs more attention in order to promote sustainable development and protect the coastal population from natural disasters such as cyclones and tsunamis.
