Jaisalmer: The city of golden sands and strange spirits

It haunts you for weeks after you return, this city dominated by the majestic fort on a solitary hill built by Rawal Jaisal in the twelth century A.D. making you want to return again and again. This is Jaisalmer, often referred to as the desert jewel in Rajasthan's crown. Lying outside the Golden Triangle that encompasses Jaipur, but no less richly endowed in history, arts and crafts, Jaisalmer remains even today somewhat inaccessible.
