Herero Ecology: The Literary Impact (Orientalia Polona)

The aim of the project "Herero Ecology" was to collect, analyse and publish materials concerning the contemporary Herero linguistic environment and the Herero literary tradition. The volume "The Literary Impact" comprises studies on the literary continuum of Herero oral prose, proverbs and poetry from the 19th century through to 1993.

Research, conducted in the years 1986-1993, included investigations in specialized departments of libraries and archives, especially in Cape Town which, among other things, led to the recovery of missing manuscripts from the 19th century, while field-work covered all trend-setting, urban and rural Herero communities in Namibia.
