What is Christianity? The main purpose of this book is to offer an answer to that question. For that reason, the author considers best to concentrate on one of the key texts, the Creed, in which the Christian community has summarized its faith and through which it proclaims it each time it is recited.

Since it is a text fixed in the early moments of Christianity, it is necessary, on the one hand, to understand its original meaning and context. On the other hand, since it is the living expression of our faith, it must be constantly reinterpreted, so that it might be understandable in each historical period. To achieve a balance between the fidelity to the Church tradition and the renewal of its content is a demand not only for theologians but also for all believers. Cardinal Ratzinger has been able to face that challenge, paying special attention to those questions modern culture poses to faith.
