Description
This book analyses the evidence for the architectural form and function of the palaces of the Hellenistic period, including governor's and private palaces. Nielsen begins by examining the models on which Hellenisitc builders may have drawn, for example from Egypt, Babylonia, Hellas and Sicily. She then discusses the palaces of Macedonia, Pergamon, the Seleucid and Ptolemaic kingdoms, and Judaea, and also looks at the early Roman palaces of Italy and Palestine in an effort to elucidate the transitional phase between the Helllenistic and Roman period.
