Description
This volume contains a synthesis of the results of an inquiry, carried out on behalf of the Ministry of Labour and Social Policies, within the actions promoted by the Ministry of the Interior through the 2000-2006 National Operational Program “Sicurezza per lo sviluppo del Mezzogiorno d’Italia†(Safety for the Development of Italy’s Mezzogiorno), a survey on foreign immigrants’ work paths after the regularization enforced in 2002. Because of its complexity and aims, it can be considered the most extensive and systematic inquiry ever carried out on migration processes in Italy and, in particular, in the southern regions (Italy’s Mezzogiorno) belonging to Objective 1, which is part of the structural interventions of the European Union: Basilicata, Calabria, Campania, Puglia, Sardinia and Sicily. The outcomes of this regularization further evidence how necessary and important has become to conform the management instruments of the phenomenon of migration to a strategic vision that may include also active labour policies and welfare measures. This approach is absolutely necessary in order to adapt the system to the present size of the foreign population, and to the size that, through family reunifications, it will take in the near future.
