Joint Investigation Teams in the European Union: From Theory to Practice

The efforts undertaken under the Dutch EU - Presidency to establish a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) on Trafficking in Human Beings from and through Bulgaria are reflected upon here. This process was monitored and analysed by a Scientific Research Group composed of researchers from Ghent University and Max Planck Institute under the direction of Dr Conny Rijken from Tilburg University. This book discusses the hurdles that have to be overcome before police and judicial cooperation within the European Union can be developed and intensified, and examines the various factors on the legal, criminological and sociological/political levels that influence this cooperation. It will be invaluable for all practitioners working in the field of international criminal cooperation, and for policy makers who are interested in the reasons why their policy is not being executed more energetically.
