The school of social sciences (sss) at jawaharlal nehru university (jnu) offers a degree programme oriented towards the study of social systems, sociological theories, research methodology and other areas of study like sociology of knowledge, professions, social psychology, anthropological theories, sociology of gender, cultural studies, indian school thought, ethnic minorities and marginal groups, social ecology, social demography and sociology of science/medicine. The degree programme is offered in the form of masters of arts in sociology (ma sociology). Admission to ma sociology programme at the jnu is done on the basis of the marks obtained in the written entrance examination.this book has been designed for the candidates aspiring to clear the entrance examination conducted by jnu for admission to ma sociology programme. The present book for ma sociology entrance exam has been divided into five chapters namely sociological thinker, concepts in sociology, theories in sociology, methods of sociological enquiry and processes of social change and development, each containing chapterwise previous years' solved questions. Each chapter contains theoretical explanation of the important topics which need to be covered in detail along with ample number of previous years' solved problems which will help in effective study of the concepts covered in the chapter. Each chapter in the book ends with a self assessment test which will help in practice and self analysis of the level of understanding of the concepts covered in that particular chapter. The book also contains three practice sets which have been designed on the lines of the previous years' entrance examination pattern of ma sociology entrance examination. To help the aspirants get an insight into the type of questions and the level of questions asked in the examinations, last seven years' (2008-2014) solved papers of ma sociology entrance examination have also been provided in the book.
