The inheritance was a sensitive issue in Israel and the Ancient Near Eastern societies. A little known but highly controversial aspect of that issue was the daughter's place in the inheritance of the patrimony. The introduction to this book discusses the general status of daughters. Part One deals with inheritance by daughters in Israel and Part Two with daughters as heirs in the Ancient Near east. Part Three compares the two, focusing on the contributions that comparisions make.
