Drawing on Beckett: Portraits, Performances, and Cultural Contexts

This book brings together twenty-one original essays by leading international Beckett scholars from eleven countries. The opening section presents for the first time in one volume twenty-four sketches of Samuel Beckett executed by his good friend, the Paris-based Israeli artist Avigdor Arikha. Section two focuses on those writers, philosophers, scientists, and artists who have influenced Beckett's writing or who provide illuminating intertextual points of reference. Section three discusses Beckett's work for television and radio, performances of his stage plays, and the effects of media jumping. The entire collection illustrates the varied and illuminating ways in which people continue to draw on Beckett and his writing.
