Maria Cacao ang diwata ng Cebu (Maria Cacao, the Fairy of Cebu)

When people see a damaged bridge in Argao, they know that she has set sail in her golden boat and the mast had hit the bridge. Who is this fairy called Maria Cacao? The diwata or fairy as a caring and helpful being is a popular motif in many folktales across the regions. This is shown in the different versions of the story like Maria Mailing (Laguna) and Maria Sinukuan (Pampanga). In this retelling, the author gives emphasis to the contemporary concern of protecting the environment. It also highlights the value of respecting the possessions of others.
