In a world, adorned by non-stop pleasure-inducing programs streaming live from every corner, with average life expectancy of hundred and fifty, society's hierarchy of needs has been flattened to a single line: achieve carnal pleasure. Life, nevertheless, has value only until the age of twenty- four. CMS (common methods of suicide) are a sure path to escape failure or old age. Ownership and origin are irrelevant. Deep compassion and love are non-existent, unavailing. After receiving a wad of letters from her dead donor, a commoner – fifteen-year-old Alida Postman – is sent on a treasure hunt where she learns about the Experiment that took away children, dehumanising the world. Realising the murderous consequences too much dependence on technology and absence of deep empathy can have on mankind, Alida is faced with the dilemma whether to join an underground Army of Hedgehogs and fight to bring childhood back or succumb to pleasure and give up on changing her world.
