Jennifer, an American married to a Kuwaiti finds her fairy tale-perfect life thrown into complete chaos when Iraq invades Kuwait in 1990. Nothing could have prepared her for the feeling of helplessness as she watched her adopted country succumb to invasion, the capture of her son by the Iraqi soldiers, separation from her younger sons, and for her alienation from her beloved husband. A Cry in the Desert has been awarded the 1996 Prize, in the Novel Category, for Research & Studies of the Repercussions of the Iraqi invasion of the State of Kuwait.
