Analysis of freight markets: An example application of the logistics strategy analyzer within the food distribution industry (CTS report)

This paper describes the use of a major tool for logistics planning, the Logistics Strategy Analyzer, as applied to a real wold situation. The model is used to simulate the logistics activities of a major New England grocery firm. This firm operates with a single distribution warehouse in the suburbs of Boston and buys and distributes from this location the commodities to be sold in 56 stores throughout New England. The decisions of the logistics staff in choice of mode and shipment size for various commodities being shipped from various purchase points throughout the United States is replicated within the model and the results compared.
