STRENGTH FITNESS FOR WOMEN-an illustrated primer, is the very first book to represent the First Ladies of modern women's powerlifting and weightlifting and the first book ever to forecast and illustrate the aesthetics and aspiration of big strong women lifting huge weights and practicing adult acrobatic lifting.
Only 4000 of its second edition were ever printed (in 1984)A profusely illustrated woman's powerlifting and strength building manual and female muscular development primer featuring the ADFPA American Drug Free Powerlifting Association and USPF Women's Powerlifting Competition as well as membership of the New England Women's Gym from 1982 through 1984.
The New England Women's Gym (NEWGym) was started up by Michelle Greenspan and Cat Chase in 1982, and operated in Boston's South End and in Cambridge, Massachusetts with up to 300 active women members. That association received wide support from USPF president Joe Zarella, a USMC veteran of Okinawa 1945, and the ADFPA-American Drug-Free Powerlifting Association. Numerous B & W photos include the first ADFPA Women's Nationals at Cambridge, MA Ringe-Latin High School in 1983 and other competitions. It was the first all-female lifting gym in America with its own nationally competitive powerlifting team.
This was a rare, first of its kind book.
It boldly emphasized maximal-strength development for Women.
When figure competition and slenderized feminine physiques that posed no real threat to male dominion in strength would only cautiously be permitted, this homespun 1982 creation by an antisocial Vietnam veteran/ seemingly chronically under employed artist-type comes out and seriously raises a question. Why not exalt and adore women who can press, pull, lift and carry 2-3 times their own weight? Put this in print. A brute strength building manual produced exclusively for WOMEN.
Now, that turned a lot of people off back then!
Holding big men overhead in reverse-role extended stunting or building up massively sturdy limbs aside, the bottom line is to achieve or restore healthy body composition. Fat-Free Muscle-Mass with the big weights. Women banging those barbells to produce highly functional plus-size athleticism... for ALL sizes and shapes, Adult or seniors, coach-potatoes or practiced athletes! The "trick"to get there is: Perform very brief, but intense lifting bouts, with lots of rest and recovery. Forget the ground pounding aerobics a little bit, will ya?
They say there's ARMY STRONG, NOW-days there's WOMAN STRONG!
