This IDC study provides an analysis of the European pay TV digital cable and digital satellite hardware market and a forecast of shipments through 2008. Forecasts are provided for digital STB shipments with breakdowns by delivery system. An assessment and forecast of the outlook for PVR-enabled hardware is provided, with additional commentary on other key technology trends and the regional digital TV market.
"The pay TV digital cable and digital satellite hardware market will record modest growth to 2008 — however, hardware shipments will not revert back to the levels of the late 1990s," said Jason Armitage, senior research analyst, European Consumer Devices and Technologies. "Opportunities will exist to supply the cable and satellite sectors with higher-margin products incorporating new technologies — especially PVR and HDTV."
