VoIP and Cable Multiple System Operators: Comcast Makes Its Move

This IDC Flash discusses Comcast's January 2005 announcement regarding its plans to deploy a VoIP service nationally. Although cable multiple system operators (MSOs) have been offering circuit-switched telephony (and in some cases, smaller MSOs have deployed a VoIP solution), the market has been waiting for a major MSO to clearly articulate its VoIP strategy. Comcast's plans to ramp up its VoIP deployment schedule will increase the pressure on traditional carriers and virtual network operators to deploy and differentiate their product lines.
