Japan Wireless LAN 2004-2008 Forecast and 2003 Brand Shares

This IDC study analyzes the 2003 market size and vendor share of the Japan wireless equipment market. The study also includes a market forecast up to 2008, as well as the business climate of the country's corporate users based on IDC's Japan Networking Enterprise User Survey, 2004, conducted in August 2004 to find out more about the local wireless equipment market. Although a growth rate of 55.0% was recorded in total unit shipments and 13.6% in the end-user revenue in the Japan wireless LAN equipment market as compared to the previous year, there is a slowdown in growth.

"There is a demand for higher throughput from corporate users, and as before, they are worried about security," says Ken-ichi Kusano, analyst, Network Equipment, IDC Japan. "For vendors, competition in pricing will become tougher, and from this juncture onwards, it will be very difficult to maintain profit. In order to survive in this environment, vendors need to put up with price competition, as well as create and introduce products with higher throughput and provide security solutions that will give users a sense of security."
