From the author: What are two creative ways to present patient education on a monthly basis? This was the objective of the Peritoneal Dialysis Special Interest Group (PD SIG) session at the ANNA 35th National Symposium, April 16, 2004, in Washington, D.C. With 78 fellow PD nurses in attendance, PD SIG member Jeannie Farina MSN, RN, presented, "Games People Play: Strategies for Patient Cooperation." As a corporate Clinical Educator, Ms. Farina has been exposed to many interesting games created by PD nurses and support staff to improve patient education and compliance. Several games and contests that were used in actual PD facilities were highlighted, positive results discussed, and the elements needed to implement a successful patient game were reviewed.
