From the author: In this study, we have examined the issue of equifinality by analyzing strategy-performance relationships in firms from six different service industries. Our results indicate there is no significant difference in the performance of organizations with either a prospector, defender, or analyzer strategy. Organizations with a reactor strategy, however, had a lower level of performance than did those organizations with a prospector, defender, or analyzer strategy. Implications for future research and practice are discussed.
