From the author: Patrick J. Hayes (Roman Catholic) is a doctoral student in ecclesiology in the School of Religious Studies, Catholic University of America, and is an adjunct professor of theology and religious studies at Iona College and Fordham University. He has also taught at St. Joseph's College, West Hartford, CT; Trinity College. Washington, DC; Albertus Magnus College. New Haven, CT; and the College of St Joseph of Vermont, Rutland, VT. He holds a B.S. in speech from Emerson College, Boston; an M.Ed. from Teachers College, Columbia University, and an M.Div. and M.S.T. (1997) from Yale Divinity School He was editorial assistant at The Living Light: A Journal of Catechesis and Pastoral Ministry in 1990-2000, then became associate director of the Collegium: A Colloquy on Faith and Intellectual Life, at Fairfield (CI) University. He also held research positions with the Secretariat for Doctrine and Pastoral Practices of the National Conference of Catholic Bishops and with the Yale University Law Library, Shoed and Ward ex pects to publish his undergraduate text, My Tears Have Become My Bread: Catholicism's Response to Suffering, in 2002. He has presented papers at scholarly meetings; has a chapter in the forthcoming University of Notre Dame Press volume, Catholic Social Teaching in Practice: A Case Study Approach, eel. Alexis Kelley and Kathleen Maas Weigart. and has more than two dozen entries in the forthcoming 2nd ed. of The New Catholic Encyclopedia (Gale Group, 2002). His articles and book reviews have appeared in The Living Light, The American Catholic, The Jurist, and other journals.
