From the supplier: In 1985 Maryland Instructional Television and IBM initiated the Maryland Educational Technology Network (METN) with five Maryland school systems to study networking computers in schools. Queen Anne's County Instructional Network (QACIN) now consists of five networks running Novell networking software. The network is designed to support student instruction. PCs have been placed in areas readily accessible to students, and are used extensively for word processing and research. Tasks such as recording student attendance, scheduling classes, and compiling transcripts have also been automated. Future acquisitions will include a phone server, a facsimile machine, and a centralized electronic repository.
